Client Testimony

Mario was my guide for a recent trip to Lalibela, and I couldn’t have asked for more. He knows a lot about the churches and also found a really special place for us to visit outside the city. He took care of all the logistics (which can be very challenging in Ethiopia!) and made everything work seamlessly. He is also an ace photographer and we walked away with wonderful photos from the trip. I highly recommend him!

My husband and I met Mario on our first trip to Lalibela in October 2019 and we enthusiastically recommend his services to everyone planning a visit to Lalibela. He is an amazing guide and person. Mario is so knowledgeable and articulate (his English is excellent) and he has a wonderful sense of humor. He is also a fabulous photographer- just give him your phone or camera and you will have stunning photo memories of your time in Lalibela. We have returned to Lalibela with friends from the U.S. on three more occasions, most recently a couple of weeks ago, and each time we hire Mario to be our guide, and always our friends love him! If you are planning to hire a guide in Lalibela, we wholeheartedly recommend that you hire Mario.

We had a one day tour with Mario around some of Lalibela’s beautiful churches from 9:30am-12pm then 2:30-5pm. Mario is a brilliant guide and person. He was very knowledgeable about the place and had a clear passion also. He made our day interactive through asking us questions and taking great photos of us and the churches.

I recently spent 3 days in Lalibela with Hailemariam (Mario) as my guide and cannot recommend him highly enough! My friend and I were very impressed not only by Mario’s knowledge of local history (both modern and ancient), but also by his passion for Lalibela’s beautiful churches and traditions. Mario’s English was perfect and it’s obvious that he is highlight trained and professional as a guide. He listened to the things my friend and I wanted to prioritize during our short time and he went above and beyond to make sure we were safe, comfortable, and that we experienced all Lalibela has to offer. He provided us with helpful guidance on local etiquette as well. As a bonus, Mario is a patient photographer and helped me and my friend get some really neat photos.

If you are going to Lalibela, I can’t imagine a better guide than Mario!

We spent 3 days being shown round Lalibela with Mario. He is an exceptional guide. He has a deep knowledge and about Lalibela and is engaging and passionate about the history, which brought it to life for us.

He is a kind and conscientious person, always quick to help others and even picks up rubbish along the paths to keep them clean.

Mario is also very fun to hang out with and will make sure you leave Lalibela with a unique collection of beautiful photos!

Overall our trip to Lalibela wouldn’t have been as special without Mario. Thank you so much 🙂

He was easy to communicate with, incredibly informative and spoke perfect English. He also had a great sense of humour and we had a lot of fun taking creative photos. It was a highlight of our visit. Thank you!!

We spent 3 days with Mario visiting the sights in and around Lalibela. He was a pleasure to be with, knowledgeable about the history of the churches we visited and gave good advice about where to eat. He speaks good English and was an attentive and careful guide.
